Chata Gil, a compassionate woman from Los Angeles, was deeply moved during a family visit to El Salvador when she noticed numerous stray dogs wandering the streets.
This experience inspired her to take action when she came across a particularly neglected dog that others overlooked because of its unkempt appearance.
While dining at a local restaurant, Chata observed a dog going from table to table, desperately seeking scraps.

Despite being shunned and deemed “ugly” by other patrons, Chata chose to approach the dog and offer some food, even as others mocked her for doing so.
Unable to shake the image of the forlorn animal, Chata went in search of the dog, ultimately finding it curled up alone on the street.
Driven by empathy, she decided to bring the dog with her, though it was initially afraid, having likely suffered from human cruelty.

In an effort to rebuild trust, Chata provided food and then contacted the Miracles of Love Association in El Salvador to arrange veterinary care.
A subsequent examination revealed that despite the dog’s rough exterior, it had potential for recovery. Chata briefly considered euthanasia as a means to end the dog’s suffering but was motivated to continue its care.
Seeking additional support, Chata reached out to the Saving Huey Foundation in the United States for assistance. There, she began to coordinate efforts to help the dog, now named “Sal,” before returning to the U.S.

As Sal receives treatment in El Salvador, plans are being made to relocate him to Southern California once he is fully recovered.
Tracy Lystra, a member of the Saving Huey Foundation, has been actively monitoring Sal’s progress and facilitating fund transfers to cover his veterinary expenses via PayPal.
