When I first stumbled upon the dog from today’s story, my heart broke into a million pieces. Abandoned by her previous owners, this sweet Greyhound was left in the streets with no food or water.A woman found her in their backyard and one look at the dog brought instant tears to her eyes. She immediately called their local dog rescue organization, hoping the poor thing would survive.Besides being severely malnourished with every bone showing up, the poor girl had an infected front paw.
It was almost rotten, with flies buzzing around the open wound. What was even more sad was the fact that the dog felt her end was coming soon.It seemed like she chose this backyard so she could peacefully cross over the rainbow bridge. However, a dedicated rescue duo was on their way to change her life forever…
The rescuers immediately picked the dog up ready to rush the poor girl to the vet. Although these rescuers have seen pretty much everything so far, this sweet greyhound broke their hearts. As one of the rescuers said in a video:
“When I carried her I felt her body was very cold. I hope she’s not [passing away] from hypothermia. The hour it took us to drive her to the vet was the longest hour I had ever gone through.”Naming her Santa, they prepared her a proper meal while they waited for the vet to take her in. The sweet girl ate everything up, probably happy to have a decent meal for the first time in months.The vet assessed her infected front paw and soon realized it was beyond saving. Santa needed an amputation, but the surgery was only possible once her blood work came in.In the meantime, they placed Santa in a loving foster home where she received endless cuddles. Her foster parents worked hard to help her gain trust again since the poor girl’s spirit was crushed. It turned out that her blood values were concerning and she needed an urgent blood transfusion. In addition to her amputation surgery, they also spayed Santa.Santa has been through a lot, but even after the surgery once she saw her rescuers, the sweet girl started wagging her tail.The recovery journey ahead of her was long and difficult, so one of the rescuers decided to officially adopt her.
In the beginning, Santa struggled to walk. Learning to walk and run without her front paw was a challenge at first, but the love and support she received from her forever humans made it allpossible.
Thanks to these kind-hearted people, Santa lives a happy life today. They gave her a second chance at life, and she enjoys every minute of it!
