Rescuers initially responded to what they thought was a report of an “aggressive” pit bull, but instead, they uncovered a heart-wrenching situation.
What they found was Halo, a blind and severely emaciated dog, who had suffered from extreme neglect. If they hadn’t arrived when they did, she might not have survived.
Halo’s saviors, Stacey and her husband Mike, have a history of rescuing dogs in Mississippi and have impacted many animals through the Lucky Dog Refuge in Stamford, Connecticut.

When they discovered Halo in the woods, she was nothing but skin and bones. Coaxing her to safety with food, it was clear that her past had been filled with suffering.
Halo’s condition suggested she was likely used for breeding until she was deemed “useless” and then abandoned.
Stacey Frazier explained on Facebook that her ears were crudely cut, and she suffered from serious eye injuries, leaving her blind in one eye and partially sighted in the other due to untreated disease.

Despite her ordeal, Halo finally found herself in caring hands. The name Halo was a nod to her fragile state. Against all odds, she survived. Stacey brought her home, started treatment, and provided the necessary medication and nourishment.
There were moments of uncertainty about Halo’s future, but she persevered. Jessica, one of her rescuers, shared in a video that although they knew Halo was visually impaired, it wasn’t confirmed that she was fully blind until the doctor’s visit.
Halo demonstrated her limited vision by occasionally bumping into obstacles like telephone poles.

For the first time, Halo experienced love and kindness. Under Stacey’s care, she realized what it meant to be cherished. Her recovery took months, but she eventually prepared for the next chapter—moving to Connecticut for a fresh start.
Arriving at Lucky Dog Refuge, Halo was unrecognizable from the frightened, undernourished pup she once was. She had transformed into a joyful and hopeful dog.
One of Halo’s favorite treats turned out to be ice cream. With each frozen delight, she radiated happiness. Jessica said, “She lets us know every day that she’s grateful for everything that she has now. She’s just an angel.”

Despite her newfound joy, Halo was still missing one thing—a forever home. In a wonderful turn of events, she found the perfect family who also decided to adopt her best friend from the shelter, Layne. Now the pair enjoy their new lives together.
After everything she’s endured, Halo has finally found the happiness and security she deserves. Enjoy your new life, Halo—you’ve earned every minute of it!
